A STEADY PRACTICE PRODUCES THE BEST RESULTS
A full-time Ashtanga student practices 6 days per week, with a Saturday holiday. However, a minimum of 3 days per week (i.e. every other day) initially is enough to retain the energy of class. By sustaining your Mysore practice, you will feel the physical and mental effects of the sequence with each visit, rather than having to re-learn the poses leading up to your last pose. Moving forward through the sequence becomes an organic process.

NEW POSES
Additional poses will be given to you when the teacher believes you are ready. For your safety, please do not attempt postures on your own beyond what you are taught each day in class, and do not ask for more asanas. It is important to learn every pose, as well as how to get into and out of them correctly, by an experienced teacher. Postures will be taught one by one, within the context of your overall practice. Ashtanga is a lifelong practice, so stay focused, have patience, and enjoy the journey.

ABOUT ASTRID

Astrid was born and raised in Tromsø, Norway, and it was during her studies in Australia in 2003 that she discovered Ashtanga Yoga. From her very first class, she knew she had found something special. The practice quickly became a central part of her life, and through many years of daily dedication, it has deeply shaped both who she is and how she lives.

In 2010, she traveled for the first time to Mysore, India – the heart of the Ashtanga tradition – to study with Sharath Jois. Since then, she returned annually to continue her studies under his guidance, until his passing in November 2024. Astrid feels immense gratitude for the fourteen years she had the opportunity to learn from him – years filled with insight, transformation, and profound learning.

As both a teacher and a student, Astrid is rooted in the traditional method as taught in Mysore, while also recognizing the importance of adapting the practice to meet the realities of life in the West. She was authorized Level 2 in 2013 and teaches the Primary, Intermediate, and Advanced A series as she learned them from Sharath. She has also had the honor of assisting him twice in the Shala in Mysore. When unable to travel to India, she seeks guidance from experienced teachers such as Sharmila Desai and Lucia Andrade.

For six and a half years, Astrid was the owner and head teacher at Mysore Yoga Oslo, where she built and led the daily Mysore program with great dedication. Since the shala closed in June 2020, she has continued teaching freelance.

Astrid holds deep gratitude for the teachers who have guided her on her path – Guillermo Benitez, Matt Corigliano, Eddie Stern, Basia Lipska, and Alexander Medin. She is equally grateful to her students, from whom she has learned just as much over the years.
